ParaSight Fecal Egg Testing

We offer fecal egg counts in-clinic, with results the same day! Green Mobile Veterinary Services uses the ParaSight System for efficient and accurate results. The ParaSight System is a 2.5 minute validated fecal egg counter that uses fluorescence-imaging technology and a automated counting algorithm to identify and number specific parasites present. The results are then stored permanently in your animals' medical records and are emailed directly to you. Once parasite loads have been determined and evaluated, our doctors will get you set up with an appropriate deworming protocol to treat and then manage your animals. 

 What is different about ParaSight?

It has an improved accuracy and precision than the old method of egg counting called the ‘McMaster fecal flotation’. The McMaster test is susceptible to human errors both in test preparation and counting. ParaSight uses digital analysis of protein binding to eggs with a proven algorithm. 

 Why not just give a de-wormer?

De-wormers reduce the worm/parasite burden in the gut. Many owners are used to giving de-wormers multiple times in a year, however some animals do not need the “de-wormers” as often because their worm count is low. Giving de-wormers to these animals contributes to drug resistance. We want to test and identify these animals, so they do not get inappropriate treatment. 

When to test?

Routine testing is done TWICE A YEAR. For animals with higher worm burdens, we recommend testing more frequently.
